Motivation letter for the Opportunity Card: 8 points the consul wants to see
Many of our recent cases involve help with the motivation letter for an Opportunity Card application. For a job-seeker visa, the letter often decides the outcome, so here's the structure we usually suggest.
1. Why Germany?
Explain what attracts you to the German labour market, economy and your industry.
2. Why is your profile in demand here?
Describe how your education and experience match the real needs of the German labour market.
3. Which regions do you want to work in, and why?
Show that you understand where employers are: where the companies and industries you're targeting are concentrated.
4. Which fields interest you and what job do you want?
Be specific: occupations, job titles, types of companies.
5. How will you organise your job search?
Explain who you've already contacted, whether you've had interviews and any correspondence. Always ask for rejections in writing and check whether the decision was due to the lack of a work permit.
6. German: your level and plans
Describe your current level and how you plan to improve it.
7. How will you handle housing?

8. What steps will you take to get your qualification recognised?
If it applies to your profession, show that you know about Anerkennung. You can check your degree in Anabin and, if needed, obtain a ZAB evaluation.

The letter must be fully consistent and reflect your specific situation: consuls immediately spot generic wording copied from the internet. It must match your CV, experience, language certificates and financial plan.
